North Africa and the Mediterranean

In the early campaigns in North Africa and the Mediterranean theater, British troops wore khaki drill (KD) shorts or pants with shirts with long sleeves Aertex. The tan, pale shadow of KD was more suited to regions desert or semi-desert of the "dark khaki" or brown serge used in battle dress. When the Allies moved up Italy, however, two-piece khaki denim overalls combat gear as more and more preferred. In 1943, the KD shirt began to be replaced by a more sustainable cotton bush jacket KD.

Lt Gen Arthur Percival, led by a Japanese officer, walks under a flag of truce to negotiate the surrender of Allied forces Singapore, February 15, 1942. All standard shorts worn with KD.

In the Far East, the British were at war with the Japanese while equipped uniform practice of KD. Shirts and pants should be dyed green as a temporary expedient until more suitable clothing jungle become available. A new tropical uniform in Jungle Green (JG) was quickly developed a battle Aertex JG blouse, jacket Aertex JG bush (as an alternative the blouse) and cotton twill pants battle JG. In hot and humid conditions of Southeast Asia, JG darkened with sweat almost immediately.

Khaki battle dress was used until the late 1960s, and various parts of the uniform in KD, JG and GL remained on the issue of soldiers serving in the Mediterranean, Middle East and tropics after the war. In the late 1940s, however, stocks were depleted, and a new model 1950 - tropical uniforms were made available in both KD and JG. It was poorly designed, with a bush jacket in very poor assembly Aertex maligned, and loops straps that dug into her hips while walking kit. Finally, the most practical Gurkha regiments JG shirt has been copied to replace the bush jacket 1950-model. Still, the troops still sought out the older in time of war, issues of better KD, JG and GL kit.
